Youth

"Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord." - I Samuel 20:42

Winter Fest 2008Sunday Bible Class, 10:00 a.m. in the MetroDome.

Our teen ministry program is a well-rounded program for students who have a desire to have Christ at the center of their lives.

Our ministry exists to Practice the Great Commandment of Love, Remembering the Great Sacrifice of Christ, Causing Us to Live the Great Commission of Making Disciples.

Important New Information

Here is some very important information to Youth and Youth parents about some changes for the next few months:

  • On Wednesday, September 3rd we will be moving Halftime (Youth night) to 6 p.m. until 8 p.m for the following reasons:
    • This seems like a no-brainer to better meet the needs of our Youth and their parents. Parents now will be able to determine what their child or children do before 7 p.m. which would start our worship and class time. The Youth room will be open at 6 p.m., youth will also be able to play outside if parents allow on the basketball courts, or youth can eat with their families and possibly other youth in the Metro Bistro until 7 p.m.
    • Youth will now be in class the same times as their parents which means parents will not have to wait around after their class any longer. This will make it where youth can be home earlier because of school on Thursday and also families who have youth and younger children can get them home.

Thanks to the parents who brought this obvious change to our attention. Sometimes when we have done something for so long, we forget to evaluate other ways which are obviously better. Keep sending your ideas for us to consider. Youth meetings before church will be moved up in time and Bible Bowl practice will continue to meet during the first hour (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

  • Because of a hurricane day, our fall retreat in October will be changed to a High School separate Guys and Girls Retreat. Teresa (my wife) will be leading the girls and I will be leading the guys. It has been 2 years since we have done this, and we are due for another one. We will probably have youth vote on whether they want Winterfest of Winter Retreat at the beginning of the year.

Thanks to all the youth and parents who sent their feedback and ideas. It was extremely helpful. Thanks for all your patience and support,

Travis Verge

Our Vision

Just a thought on our vision for youth ministry. Youth ministry at Metro is different from most churches because we do not do a few big events during the year and pack our summer with non-stop events to grow our youth. I believe this promotes jumping from mountain top experiences to mountain top experiences to grow or recharge them in their faith. The truth is this will not continue when a person goes to college and grows up as an adult. There are not mountain top experiences every couple of months to keep us going in our faith. So I have put a lot of time and resources into what happens every week in this
