Elementary (Kindergarten to 4th grade)
Frequently Asked Questions about our Children's Ministry
Do you have check in and check out procedures? Yes. Each
ROC family will fill out a ROC registration form and their information
will be put into our new check in/check out system. Children in
the ROC area will be checked in and out by an authorized adult with
a personal pass code.
Where are the elementary classrooms
located? The ROC elementary classes in the ROC area of the Metro
Center.
What service times will the elementary
classes be offered? Classes will be offered all service times
for your elementary child.
How can I be sure that no one
else picks up my child? Each parent through the ROC registration
form authorizes who is allowed to pick up their child. Each person
who is authorized to pick up a child will have their own personal
pass code, and those specific children assigned to them. So if someone
who is not authorized tries to pick up your child, they will not
be in the system.
What if I am a family member and
the child I need to pick up is not assigned to me or I am not in
the system? For the safety of the child, if you are not assigned
to pick that child up, then you cannot pick the child up. If this
happens, the parents will be contacted before the child is released.
What if I a bring a visitor or
a visiting family attends Metro for the first time? Will they be
in the check in/check out system? We will have a special table
for visitor families and those who are not in our system. They will
be accommodated differently to make sure their child gets to the
right class, and they are able to find their way around Metro Center.
I've been visiting Metro for some
time now and I would like my child to be in the check-in system.
How do I get them registered? Fill out a ROC
Registration Form and Medical
Release Form and turn it in to the ROC greeter desk.
I need to pick up my child early.
How will you know where they are? In the event that you need
to pick up your child early, the check in system will know which
class your child is assigned to, which will notify you and the greeters,
and we can get your child to you as quickly as possible.
For my children to attend the
discovery center time (10:00 -11:00), why do I have to be in a bible
class or serving? In the event that we have to contact you for
your child for any reason, we need to know where you are located
during this bible class hour. Once you have decided to attend a
class or serve during the bible class hour, let us know where you
will be and we will log it in the check in system. The other hours
are assembly hours, so more than likely you would be in the auditorium.
How can I be sure that the volunteers
can be trusted? Each volunteer is required to have a background
check completed and “apply for the position” they are wanting to
work in. They will also be required to read the children’s ministry
handbook, which talks about all aspects of the children’s ministry.
What accommodations or programs
do you offer for special needs children? At the current time
we do not have a special needs ministry. In the event that your
child needs special accommodations, please notify the children’s
ministry director, so we may have a volunteer to specifically help
that child during their bible class time.
How can I be sure that my child
will be assigned to the correct classroom? All elementary aged
children will be promoted based on their grade in school. Promotions
will happen in May after the school year is completed.
I see that the R.O.C children’s
area is self contained. Can I walk my child to class? We are
discouraging any extra traffic in the children’s area. If your child
can walk to class by themselves, that is great, but if your child
is upset, you will be escorted by one of our greeters to the classroom
until your child feels comfortable. Please remember that in most
cases, children quickly adjust. Basically, for the safety of the
children and volunteers, you must have a purpose for being in the
children’s area.
What is Elementary Celebration
time? Elementary celebration is children’s worship. The children
will sing, praise and learn the bible lesson of the day.
What are Elementary Discovery
Centers? The discovery centers are reinforcements to the lessons
that they have learned or will learn in “Celebration Time”. They
can include activities such as, crafts, snack, and prayer. Each
center will be themed toward the main lesson of the day.
