Nursery (0-23 months old)
Frequently Asked Questions about our Children's Ministry Nursery
Where are
the Nursery rooms located? The ROC nurseries are located off
the front hall just past the restrooms and main entrance to the
Celebration Center. There are two rooms: 0-11 months and 12-23 months.
When will
the Nursery be offered? The nursery will be open for ages 0-23
months during all service times.
Check in/Check
Out
-- The ROC Nursery will use a pager and sticker system for checking in and checking out your babies. When you drop off your child you will receive a pager with a number, and an information sticker for your baby. In the event, the nursery needs to contact you, your pager will be activated. To pick up your child, the pager and parent portion of the baby sticker will need to be handed back to the Nursery volunteer.
How can I
be sure that no one else picks up my child? A person picking up a child in the nursery area must have the pager and sticker assigned to that child. In the event that you get held up and want a friend or relative to pick up your baby, that friend or family member must have the pager and parent sticker
Why don’t
you give me my child if I don’t have the pager, especially when
my child is yelling “MOMMY”? Our first priority is the safety
and security of the child. For the nursery, the pagers are the most
effective way that we can communicate with parents and ensure that
only authorized people pick up their children. In the case of divorced
parents, the child can identify either parent, but that parent may
not have custodial rights or visitation privileges that weekend.
Ministry leaders will assist in this circumstance as necessary.
How old does
my child have to be before I leave him/her in the Nursery? There
is no minimum age. Whenever you feel comfortable, our workers would
love to care for your child.
How can I
be sure that the volunteers can be trusted? Each volunteer is
required to have a background check completed and “apply for the
position” where they are wanting to work. They will also be required
to read the children’s ministry handbook, which talks about all
aspects of the children’s ministry.
Is there
a place to breast-feed my baby? In the nursery room for babies
ages 0-11 months, there is a special private nursing room.
What if my
child cries when I leave him? In most cases children quickly
adjust. Once they see events that are taking place in the room,
they will usually become more involved and stop crying for mom or
dad. ROC volunteers are trained to deal with upset children. However,
if your child continues to cry for an extended period of time, you
will be paged.
Oops, I forgot
my diaper bag, Will there be supplies in the nursery that I can
use? The nurseries will have limited supplies of diapers, wipes,
snacks, and extra clothes just in case of an emergency. However,
we are asking that you bring the supplies your baby needs with you
and label each item that belongs to you.
How will
you know what diaper bag belongs to my child? When you drop off your baby, you will receive a pager with a number and a sticker with the same corresponding number that you will stick to the bag. This will allow the volunteers to match the bag to the correct baby. Also, please make sure that you have your baby's belongings labeled.
I need to
leave special instructions for my baby. Where can I write down this
information for the volunteers? When the baby is dropped the parent will fill out a four part nursery tag that will allow the parent to write down specific instructions for their child. This sticker will be placed on the child's back, so the special instructions are on each baby.
