Redemption - November 2010 |
| |
Series: Redemption
Exodus
|
Redemption is seldom complete without time in the wilderness. For it’s there, in the wilderness, that we discover how to pursue God, and that how we respond to Him during life’s transitions will have more impact on the outcome than the hardships themselves. Let the journey begin.

Romans 12:1-2 “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
The fact that believers are called to total devotion to God is unmistakable in Scripture.
But what does it mean to live wholly for God?
In Romans 12-16, Paul sketches for us some specific ways in which our new life in Christ manifests itself.

In the Beginning Sermon Series - June 2010
|
| |

Series: “In the Beginning”
Genesis 1-11
|
“In the Beginning…” “The ability to choose is powerful. I suppose that if we lacked the ability to choose we would not know it. The universe began when God made the first choice which was to create the heavens and the earth and everything in it. And God gave this incredible ability that we call choice only to mankind. Unfortunately Eve then Adam chose disobedience. Animals have never rebelled. Plant life has not rebelled. Sea life has not rebelled. The planets and stars have not rebelled. Only mankind rebelled. This is not the world that God created it to be, so he has committed himself to restore it.
Fortunately Noah chose obedience. But the dance between trusting God and trusting ourselves has continued from the beginning. The opening chapters of the Bible are not about how but who – not when but why. God created a good world, a stage for fellowship with his highest creation – mankind. This is where HisStory begins.

The Divine Rescue
- written by Edward Fudge
The thrilling drama of a lost world and of the creator who will not let it go.
Reader’s Comment:
Doug Hale, Lubbock, Texas -- "Edward, this new book is a masterpiece. You have taken on one of the most important needs in the church today--giving people the big picture of God’s story. For too long, we have seen Scripture as just a bunch of isolated verses and have used them to prove almost anything we wanted, but you have shown how the story all fits together and how the Creator is at the center of everything.

The Pentateuch
- written by Dr. James E. Smith
Reader’s Comment:
Timothy W. Gordon, Boise, ID – “Dr. Smith has a wonderful overview of the Pentateuch. It has the right blend of practical application for the reader without sacrificing in-depth exegesis and theology for the serious Bible student.”

Genesis In Space and Time

Challenging the skepticism of the modern world, Francis A. Schaeffer shows why Genesis still stands as a solid basis for answering the questions of humanity’s origin and purpose.

The World That Perished
- written by John C. Whitcomb
The Early Earth: An Introduction to Biblical Creationism.
The World that Perished, a companion to The Early Earth, maintains with vigor that the Bible declares and affirms a supernatural, catastrophic flood of worldwide proportions. This declaration is corroborated by scientific observations that are not warped by a uniformitarian bias in geology.

EPIC
- written by John Eldredge
The Story God is Telling
Epic invites us to revisit the drama of life, viewing God not only as the author but also as the lead actor and exploring His motives and His heart. As Eldredge retells the gospel in four acts, he examines the power of story, the universal longing for a "plot" that makes sense deep inside us, our desire for a meaningful role to play, our love of books and movies, and how all of this points to the gospel itself.

God’s Big Picture: Tracing the storyline of the Bible
- written by Vaughn Roberts
Sixty-six books written by forty people over nearly 2,000 years, in two languages and several different genres. A worldwide bestseller published in countless sizes and bindings, translations and languages. Sworn by in court, fought over by religious people, quoted in arguments.
The Bible is clearly no ordinary book.
How can you begin to read and understand it as a whole?
In this excellent overview, Vaughan Roberts gives you the big picture--showing how the different parts of the Bible fit together under the theme of the kingdom of God. He provides both the encouragement and the tools to help you read the Bible with confidence and understanding. And he points you to the Bible's supreme subject, Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers through him.

THE LAND BETWEEN
- written by Jeff Manion
The Land Between provides fresh biblical insight for people traveling through undesired transitions--foreclosure, unemployment, parents in declining health, post-graduate uncertainty, business failure--who are looking for hope, guidance, and encouragement. What if life's transitions are there to remind us that God is present before, during, and after these periods?

Tech Team
"My eyes have seen all this, my ears have heard and understood it." Job 13:1
What we do
Every time there is a Sunday Assembly, a Wednesday night class, a Thursday night Sanctuary, a Christmas program, a Theater Production, a Summer Worship series or any other production big or small, the Tech Team is there to make it happen. This ministry is an exciting way to serve and a crucial part of what God is doing at Metro.
If you have an appreciation for the role that technology plays in presenting God's message with excellence, then you should consider serving on Metro's Tech Team. We currently need people for Audio, Lighting and Media positions. If you have experience, GREAT! If you have absolutely zero experience, GREAT! We'll train you.
If you are just curious, just want to know more about what's involved or would like to observe the Team in action, contact Leah Carlton to schedule a no-commitment "Shadow Session" to see if this ministry is right for you.

The Verve drama ministry at Metro exists to amplify the drama of the human experience, as it relates to our common spiritual, physical, psychological, and social needs.
Professional calibre theater includes Sunday lesson dramas and full-length plays throughout the year. Needed are actors, artists, musicians, readers, mimes, speakers, comedians, carpenters, writers, costumers, and make-up and hair stylists. For more information contact our Verve Ministry by e-mail.
"Verve" means energy, enthusiasm, and spirit, especially in the creative arts. Verve Drama was designed to "reclaim" the arts for God -- to show people that He is the Father of all creativity, and reflect that creativity to all. Our mission is to dramatize the human experience, as God interacts with it. Our theme scripture, printed at the top, is Jeremiah 20:9. That fire, or passion, expresses itself in a variety of ways in our lives, as we've learned to be more expressive onstage and off. Just as we stress the importance of losing ourselves to Christ onstage, we stress the importance of being Godly examples in our offstage lives. The flame of our logo represents that fire, that passion, and so our colors are red and black, as a flame. Our theme song is "Light the Fire."
